TPP (Trans Pacific Partnership) is a "trade agreement" for 12 countries including Australia, NZ and USA, accounting for 40 per cent of global trade, and affected 800 million people. TPP has 29 chapters but only 5 relate to trade.  The other chapters relate to extending patent length; restricting internet freedom;  decreasing environmental protections; food labelling; and changing many, many laws which would decrease citizen protections in order to maximize corporate profits.  Thus, TPP would give transnational corporations the ability to dictate changes to NZ laws around banking, foreign investment, mining, copyright, the internet, Maori language, price of medicines, ACC, and genetically modified foods. NZ government would have to consult investors before making new laws. Corporations could sue NZ government using secret ISDS (Investor State Dispute Settlement) courts. Despite requests from many sectors, expert panels, select committees and the public, the government has refused to release information on negotiations, except to 605 multi-national corporations. All information on TPPA comes from leaked documents as TPP has been kept amost entirely secret.  From time to time the government uses "false flags" to deter possible public attention from TPP, eg: NZ flag debate.
