TPP consequences for food:

     

* New Zealand will not be allowed to ban the importation or growing of GMO products.

 

     * NZ will be banned from using GMO labelling.

   

 * NZ rules about food pesticide residues; food preservatives;  food transportation; and food testing will have to comply with the reduced standards of TPP partners.

 

     * TPP "Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures" and "Tecnhnical Barriers to Trade" will limit how NZ can protect our eco-system and agricultural & horticultural industries.  

   

* Safety standards and inspections would be reduced.

 

     * Using "country of origin" would be banned, so food would come from unknown sources.

 

*In 2014, DowAgroSciences used NAFTA to sue Quebec for banning a dangerous pesticide.
