TPP Foreign Direct Investment Chapter

The investment chapter would apply to any company set up to bid for or conduct a contract; the contract itself; a facility (toll road or PPP prison); any IP they create; government bonds, etc.

Governments have recently been sued because of failed bids by transnational companies for privatised water concessions, PPP construction contracts, and government bonds.

The investment chapter would also stop government projects fom stipulating investment/subsidy conditions on foreign investors requiring them to use a proportion of local goods, services or technology.

This would discourage NZ startup industries

 and lose jobs.

The US insists that the limited exceptions to treaty exceptions for public health, conservation and environment issues, do not apply to the investment chapter.
